Kathleen, Lots of possibilities, but one such would be a beach plum, although normally purple. There are also other color variants of the fruit, most notably a yellowish one. Can you post some pictures of the foliage when the leaves open fully? If it is flowering, some good closeups of the flowers would also be helpful.
