We are using the pollen from the short scapes. There are a lot around here for whatever reason this year, maybe because they scapes are earlier than usual
I know some are because they had been divided and moved this past fall and others are because they are new. Sometimes the first year in your garden the scapes will be shorter and the following year they should be normal.
I don't see why it would change the pollen any.
I'm not sure if I'd call SAD pink. To me it's a dark mauvy color or a pinkish purple. I haven't seen it the color in the hybridizers photo (plum and grape), just what's in my photo.
