sallyg said:happiness is a good hand lotion/cream in winter. . I don't like the scent of many of the common drug store ones. Bath and Body works has great ones, and not all watery either. I usually just get one that's on clearance though- kind of pricey. I'm cheap.

Me too! I have all the ingredients for a really great hand/foot cream that i haven't made since last winter. It's just about time I scraped myself together to cook some again. Takes about an hour. The base is beeswax, which has to be grated and melted over boiling water, then add coconut oil (or olive, or almond or shea butter) Vitamin E and whatever scented oil you like. You can also use powdered sage or mint, but that reduces the shelf life of the cream.

Edited for afterthought. A really good heavy duty hand cream is Bag Balm, usually sold in farm supply stores, maybe pet supply as well. Another cheap one I like is Udderly Smooth, which I get at Rexall or Giant Tiger, at about half the price of Working Hands.

Oh! While I think of it. Something that made my cheap little heart happy, a couple of summers ago, was discovering that...
Wait, back up. A friend's daughter was selling horribly expensive hygiene and beauty products. She gave me a sample of olive-oil based hand cleaner, which proved very good at removing earth, tomato, beet and mushroom stain, as well as non-garden-related dirt, without drying my skin. Then I realized: it's nothing but coarse sea salt ($1/lb in the grocery store) in cooking oil (yes, canola or sunflower oil work just as well). Which - here is the happy part: I can make at a tiny fraction of the price. And have done ever since,
and now
Happiness is the chance to share it.
Behind every opportunity is a disaster in waiting.
