Hi Beth, does UC Davis send out cuttings to residence. I ordered fig cuttings from them awhile ago, but they stopped sending them out. I know they sent out excellent cuttings

Thank you

Yes! This was my first time ordering them. They send out green cuttings 2 times a yr. In fall it's Sept 1st - the 15th. Spring ones are May 1st to June 15th. Dormant cuttings have to be ordered by October 15th and shipped out in November. I did the green ones in September. You have to order each variety in a minimum of 5 stems, with a total order minimum of $100. The cuttings are $1 each, so you figure $5 per variety, unless you want 10 cuttings (or more). They send very nice big 6-8" cuttings, and every one I got, they sent no less than 6 when I ordered the min 5 cuttings. Some they sent 7 and a few even 8 stems! I have had about 60% success at rooting them. I ordered 32 varieties and lost about 11 or 12. Some roses just are harder to root than others. I also bought a stronger rooting hormone to use next time, so hopefully will have better luck next yr. Of the ones that made it, several ended up with 4-6 of the cuttings rooting, and a handful got down to one cutting that made it. But I figure as long as I get one I'm happy. Any extras I will be giving away next yr once I'm sure I end up with one of each. They have a huge list of roses to pick out. You can only do the ones that are out of patent, unless you get written permission from the hybridizer. They carry a lot of older rare modern hybrids and a decent amount of OGRs too. Also for anyone who want to try budding or grafting, they have several rootstocks available too.

The ones I got to root so far are:
BARBARA BUSH
BOB HOPE
BON-BON
BRONZE MASTERPIECE
CIRCUS PARADE
CONFETTI
KARL HERBST
LADY ELGIN
PAPA MEILLAND
PERFECT MOMENT
POLAR STAR
ROYAL HIGHNESS
SUNSET CELEBRATION
SUNSET JUBILEE
VISION

These either haven't rooted yet, or have at least calloused:
BRASS BAND
BRIGADOON
CARIBBEAN
MIKADO
MON CHERI
SWARTHMORE

It's a lot of fun. I'm really enjoying watching them. I check every day, but the ones that are not rooted yet, I check about every 2-3 days. They mostly look pretty good tho. Here's the link to their list of roses: https://fps.ucdavis.edu//roses... You can click on the ordering info to see what all it takes. If you live out of state, I would recommend paying a little extra for the ice pack. I'm just a few hrs away, so I didn't need it. The cuttings arrived in excellent shape and all wrapped very neatly in damp burlap. It was a real pleasure to get them and do this.
