How so when the first line of the article states " but Xmas, and variants such as Xtemass, originated as handwriting abbreviations for the typical pronunciation /ˈkrɪsməs/. " The use of Xmas was to make it faster when written, but when spoken it was Christmas. At least that's my interpretation. I do find the entemology of the word interesting. I shoots holes in the argument that it's a secular attempt at removing Christ from Christmas.
