SusaninSB said:Beth, I've been using Hormex #8 since I re-started making cuttings in June, with good success. Very interested in the 50-50 cinnamon suggestion. I have a few that have been very resistant to taking, so I'm going to try that soon. Thanks for the suggestion!

You're very welcome. I was surprised when John told me about it. Seems kinda weird, but, hey! If it works that'd be great! I know he roots a lot of roses to put in the Coastal CA Rose Society's Rare Rose Auction in Nov. So the formula must do something. I checked the 3 varieties of florist roses that I potted up earlier this month, and so far they look good!! When I opened up the baggies to look inside, I could smell the cinnamon! I just started using the Hormex this month. Always used either Rootone or Dip 'n Grow. Then last yr I discovered the purple gel Clonex. It worked ok on cuttings I got last fall, but I used it on the UC Davis cuttings in Sept, and really the success rate hasn't been as good as I'd hoped. But then, some roses are harder to root.

One of the ladies on the Facebook Rose Chat group has sent UCD cuttings the last two seasons to Jim at K&M Roses in Alabama to graft for a bunch of us. He uses Fortuniana rootstock and does actual grafting instead of budding (something I want to try one day). Apparently some of those roses don't take to the graft well either. There were some that had a high failure rate. Don't remember which ones tho.

It's so much fun playing with roses...
