A word of caution to newbies; don't plant your purslane in your flowerbed..it takes over. I learned from experience. Plant it in a pot by itself. It's blooms are everlasting and beautiful! I've planted portulaca for years, and it may be in same family but never takes over anything. I plant portulaca in an old bird bath. In fact, I'll probably be planting that today. I recently repainted the bird bath a royal blue or cobalt blue and all the beautiful colors of the portulaca will be beautiful in it.
