Debra the biggest thing with Echinacea is you need really good drainage. A few articles I read also say you should not plant any after July they need time to develop their roots . And that if you have first year plants do not let them flower. Also it appears that some do better in the north. You might want to give Flamethrower it appears to do well both north and south.
