As I've found out for myself + experiences from other people: always moist (never waterlogged), high humidity and NEVER water into the crown. That was my mistake and a fungus started growing on the new shoots. It held on for months, but eventually I chucked it. Also, despite having it near the shower, I watered inconsistently and let it dry out a couple of times.
