I left behind so many gardens that I decided to never garden again. But then we had this area during home construction. We had planned our 10 acres as being fully no-mow (with goats doing yard maintenance except where they could nibble on the house) so I thought of just putting a wildflower meadow on this bit. Then I got the latest Oakes daylily catalog and figured this was a once in a lifetime weed-free gardening opportunity that I just couldn't pass up. So of course I needed 140 irises from Winterberry to keep the daylilies company. And two dozen Siberian's. And then 24 hellebores from Barry Glick for early season bloom.

I started this in early July last year and did a late August iris and daylily planting. For initial ground cover and weed suppression, I did a thick sowing of cosmos and good winter sowing flower species - then mowed and tilled tending paths through "big block of garden" to make 15 big beds. Those were lined with the irises and daylilies.

The long term plan is for this to be a parent garden for divisions and seeds to flower up goat land. 😃
