Margaret,
Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I did my post in a hurry and was getting ready to go to the store. Since you responded so fast, I checked the post before leaving the house, so when I went to the store, I got some liquid bandage. Plus I also got some bleach, which I knew I was out of, and I also got some Comet. I had read on a previous post about putting Comet on cut crowns. I have this stuff now and will keep a close eye on it, if it dries up from the sulfur dust, all is well, if it still doesn't look good, I will pour bleach water on it, let it dry and use the liquid bandage. I was able to remove pretty much all of the rotted fan. I'm thinking like Michele suggested, about pouring some bleach water around the root area.
Michele, thanks so much for your information, I will try it all lol. Friends on here are the best.
Ann, I know you will send me back some, it's just that, I would hate to ask you to send some back when it is getting used to your yard. The fans that are left are huge, and I prefer to save them, partly because I want to set pods on it and partly because if I get another new plant, I will have the extra year to get it settled in AGAIN! I think twice should be enough to try a cultivar, the third time, something is wrong.
I have learned a lseeon here, NEXT time a fan yellows this bad, it will be dug out and disposed of immediately, before the fan has a chance to completely rot, and affect the whole plant.
