Hi sorry for the delayed response. I have been very busy with work.
Cutting off the bottom: Drill a hole big enough to get a utility (shipping) knife in. Carefully cut it off.
Anchoring it down: Drill 3 holes about 1" from the bottom. Slip a tent peg in the hole and hammer into the ground
