Last fall I divided my Dardanus clumps and put one division in the ground to see how it grows. I added lots of gravel underneath and around the plant. It's blooming! The real test is this summer, to see if the drainage is enough to keep the rhizomes from rotting while they're dormant in our normally wet weather.

On a side note, my clumps in the containers didn't do so well this year. I left them out too early I think and the inconsistent weather messed with their blooming, so I only got 1 stalk, when normally I'd get a dozen. Next year I will keep to my plan of not leaving the containers out until the weather is consistently warm. The color is more intense when Dardanus blooms earlier in the season.
