@Zoia, I found out the hard way last year.... turned on the sprinklers and soaked everything, but they didn't really need it. In a couple of days, some of the scapes that were forming were broken in half, with the break resembling one of those party favors that pops.....
It wasn't all of the scapes, but quite a few. I think that there is a right amount of water and fertilizer for a given point in the annual cycle, and you can go too far. I know that some people don't water or fertilize at all, but to me this seems like missing an opportunity to optimize.
Others here know much more than I do about it. But I decided last year to not repeat my early wateing. Ihave lmuch less spring sickness this year too, don't know whether that's related.
