I have an interest in 'vintage' Hippeastrum species and hybrids (johnsonii, Ackerman, etc.) which is why Rj's picture caught my eye as it looked like vittatum. It's probably a hybrid of it at some point. It could be vittatum, just renamed by a wholesaler who mass-produced it in the past, as this is also common.

I have purchased H. vittatum from Telos, as I think the Telos version seems extremely true to the vintage color plates circa. 1800's, but it has not bloomed for me yet. Emaryllis.com also has a photo from a Telos H. vittatum, and says it might be " the real deal." I agree.

I know there is a lot of variability in the color, as this 1800's era color plate shows.

The Kew database shows variations of colors as well, and their main picture shows an almost solid red.

My dream is to find "that person" who says "we've preserved and passed down offsets of H. vittatum for generations in my family, want an offset?"
