It is probably more common than people notice because they are not there to see evening flowering.
I luckily have this one on my balcony, right next to the kitchen. So I see it often, several times a day, and it was lucky to flower at the weekend when I spend more time out there.
And I have very few daylilies so they all get extra attention, anyway. I doubt I would notice much if I had hundreds and hundreds to deal with.
PS - Thankfully, this flower is still going strong. It is now almost 2.45pm.
