The leaf sport happens infrequently but it does happen. Daylilies do it often too and many other genius as well. It is a genetic duplicate of the mother. Don't have to be careful. As long as it shows root bottons it will grow. Break it off, plant it and come spring you will have a duplicate of the mother, but it probably won't until next spring.
