Let the seedling grow until you see a distinct "bottleneck" ..... this is where the caudex narrows or tapers into the main stem or trunk ....

Top the plant - make your first cut somewhere within that "bottleneck" area.... not too low or into the caudex - and - not too high into the first few sets of leaves - make cut about half or midway

Keep top dry - water only potting media

New stem growth will emerge along the cut edges ...... anywhere from 1 to 5 stems ....pinch out any leaves that shade out other stems

topping will force the caudex to grow and get fat ...... a shallow pot will force the caudex to grow /expand outwards instead of downwards like a carrot
