I am betting that is the case. Previously, I only ate lily bulbs after they had been exposed to freezing. Not on purpose, but it just happened that way because I usually end up digging when it is much colder out. Consequently, working in the cold makes the whole process of transplanting, etc. is more urgent, and while culling bulbs for eating is part of it, any other culinary matters must wait. This year, because of all the hot weather I have had this summer, lots of plants are behaving differently. Lilies died back earlier, and seed pods in general matured earlier, too, allowing me to start fall digging and garden renovations earlier. So everything is not as hurried, and I can do more testing.
