Taking the dead leaves off the plants early in the year helps, but that alone won't stop them. I treat with Bayer grub control (the stuff made for lawn grub control) in the early spring when the irises are just beginning to show growth.
Politicians are like diapers, they need to be changed often, and for the same reason.
