Hello all,
I have a Thanksgiving Cactus that's almost 4 years old now. It's very healthy and has tripled in size. It's been repotted once so far. For the past 3 years I have gotten it to rebloom between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I find it a tedious process.
I use the WARM and CHILL process. Starting in early October I keep the plant in a warm, bright spot for about 9 hours during the day ... and come evening, I move it into my very cool, dark, unheated garage overnight for about another 12 hours. Like clockwork, at around the 5 or 6 week mark, the plant begins setting tiny buds. At around that time I usually move the plant permanently back into the house, but do not place the plant near any strong heat sources or cold drafts. Come Summer I move my cactus back outside until Fall.
My question is ... is this all really necessary? Does a Thanksgiving Cactus really need a Warm/Chill process to rebloom? Can I just leave the plant inside year round except for a few months outside in the Summer?
I've posted a photo of my plant with tiny buds forming.
Any info, suggestions would be welcomed!
