The one thing that I've found to help my flares of sciatica is to verrrry slowly put my arms up over my head and bend backwards as far as possible and hold it for a couple of minutes, then verrry slowly bend forward (like to touch your toes), staying in that position for several minutes and kind of twisting side to side a little to loosen things up. Not an instant fix by any means, but it's definitely given me some relief from the sciatica and helps my back in general at other times.
