While watching British gardening shows, they continuously recommend peat free potting mixes. This is due to the destruction of peat bogs which are extremely slow growing and cannot be replaced in a human's life span. Also, due to the vast amount of C02 released when harvested, it contributes greatly to climate change. Why is America still heavily promoting the use of peat in all things gardening? There are alternatives, but our gardening's shows rarely if ever mention them. Why are we not doing more to protect this precious eco system?
