Steve, you should really try to get your hands on an Aloe plicatilis in addition to the already aforementioned spiral aloe. It may be too wet for it in summer where you are at, but it may be able to suffer through your cold wet winters if planted in really well draining soil say in a raised bed with some protection possibilities. If it can take the winters you can probably figure out to make it work in the summer.
