I usually do it once a year - early, but occasionally do it again later in the season, sometimes using 1:20 instead of 1:10. I also keep a spray bottle with soap and ammonia in the water mix for nighttime raids on the garden. Takes care of slugs AND earwigs, both of which I've seen munching.
