Nor do we eat horse in this country, and many feel emotionally opposed to venison.
Having interacted with some pretty sharp and personable octopuses (different species, so yes, octopuses not octopi), I can't bring myself to eat octopus. But I'll eat squid. Emotional preferences are very individual!
