It does sound like a good idea. I used to live in a very windy spot and often had to use bricks to weigh pots down. Here in FL it gets so hot that the plastic pots do not hold up. I do use them but it is pretty much for temporary use only. My preference is for clay, they hold up and are not as heavy as the ceramic. I am 79 and moving the ceramic is a chore so I only have a few of those big ones these days. DH and I use a Pot Lifter when it is necessary to move one. For a few years they sold pots that looked like ceramic but were made of something like Styrofoam. I loved them for their weight and because they were about 1/2" thick so they insulated the soil but they did not hold up and I have not seen any in years. For any heavy planters on hard surfaces like the patio or driveway I use plant dollies so I can turn or move the plants.
Minds are like parachutes; they work better when they are open.
