I finally added some other rocks around my shoe/clog and created a mini rock garden with many of the lovely plants you sent me in the box of precious starts. Hope this will last. I put down regular MG potting soil and then added cactus soil on top of that to fill some of the crevices and give the plants a place to nest.

Do I need to add pebbles to the top? That would help keep the soil in place I think. God sent a few drops of rain to welcome the new plantings this afternoon.
