I would clean and dry the plant so roots are visible, then only divide into two (equal) pieces, making sure each piece had roots. Then dry a day or two and plant. Give daily attention. I haven't tried this with the Oro's, so its a bit of an experiment. Don't know any reason it shouldn't work, as they are close relatives. Maybe try with a sister rosette and if no problems in a few weeks, do the crested one. but don't wait too long as winter will soon be with us.
Your concerns are legitimate, but this is also why I advocate practicing the surgery/division skills
before you need them.
