One of the things we plan to eventually put into the food forest is a pond in the general outlined area to attract more wildlife.

We will be hand digging it, and I am not wild about doing this with all the clay and shale. I started searching the internet the other night for "tools to loosen soil" and came upon this tool, an electric jack hammer. At first, I didn't seriously consider it until I began reading the reviews on several sites and was surprised at how many people said they use it to help digg holes in their hard clay soil for planting trees or trenching. Reasonably priced, I decided to but it. It won't do the "digging" but it looks like it will be good for loosening things up so we can more easily scoop it out.
