hi y'all,

Semi-novice here. In April, I bought a lupine start at the farmer's market and planted it in a tall container on my balcony. The tag said it does not like rich soil, so I used a 50/50 mix of raised bed soil and the old, somewhat dead dirt from last year's container garden.

The little Lupine was looking great until maybe ten days ago. First some of the lower leaves started to yellow. Now, several leaves are yellow / brown and dying.

I did a DIY soil pH test today, taking two samples from the container, adding a little water to each and then baking soda to one, vinegar to the other. Neither sample had a reaction, leading me to believe my soil is fairly balance.

I live in Portland, OR. We had a sunny warm April followed by a pretty rainy and overcast May.

The photo on the right was a week ago, the photos on the middle and left are today. Help!

Update: yes, there are drainage holes in the container.

Today I took the dirt out, added gravel to the bottom of the container. The soil and roots seemed fine, not soggy, no obvious signs of mildew or fungus. I put some coffee grounds in add repotted the whole thing.
