I have been growing Tacca for over 20 years. I have 4 species, including chantrieri. They grow from underground rhizomes. They like a good, well draining potting mix amended with organic matter like fir bark, but, they will also grow in the ground here where I live in nothing but sand. I suppose because its well draining. They like to be fed regularly. Weekly in the growing season, and they like a lot of very bright light (but not direct sun). They will frequently go dormant in the fall when the light wanes, but if given good bright light, may stay up. If they do go dormant, don't stress out about it just move the container to a warm dry place and wait for Spring. When grown in the ground, the black ones will commonly reseed themselves after they bloom. The white ones, not so much. They are not nearly as 'sensitive' as people think. The white ones are hardy here and I can and do grow some outdoors. They freeze to the ground every winter and come right back, But I live in Florida 9A not Michigan 6A. These are some of mine
