I'm in zone 5a, so I thought that they should have survived. I also planted them next to the edge of my "crop circle" in the front yard so that they would get extra heat from the rocks, but it still didn't help. As for being sterile, I did harvest some seed and actually got it to grow, so I'm not sure that that would be accurate. I planted them over at my Mom's house and they haven't bloomed yet, but they do have buds on them. I'm positive that I didn't mix the plants or seeds up when I collected the seeds, as I have no other Gaillardia near where this one was, and I didn't collect seeds from any of the others that I have.

They are so unique looking to me. If it's true that they are sterile, is there a chance that mine wasn't marked right and I had something that looked similar?

Edited to say that in my previous post I said that the seeds didn't grow, but they did. They just didn't reseed all over like the others that I've had. I don't think I found one seedling anywhere near the plant. Yep, I've lost my mind! I had to check my records!
