Not saying it was a bad idea, it looks well proportioned now and should recover fine.

Sometimes people think a worried plant just needs more room when it's not the case.
Done it myself many times.

I think you made a good choice but still think watering was your main issue.
It might not be pouting so much from the transplant if it was a bit more hydrated when it occurred.

Just guessing, keep us posted. I love those plants.
