yes you can cut most of the stems back to the caudex if you like just leave some for leaf production. ive been told that cinnamon powder is good to put on cuts it can help seal and has a micro bacteria properties. look at it and be selective with the cutting the smaller the branch the better for the plant to heal. when you do this its best to unpot and wash all dirt off and look at it to see what you got from all sides and look at about how much of the caudex you like to expose then decide if there what stems you like to cut. after all cutting of stems and roots you need to (normaly) hang in a location that will have good air flow and let it heal its self for (this is a debate) an ample mount of time. you dont want it to get soft needing water go here for ideas on cutting and care
