I've been using the Brother P-Touch labels for several years. They are the only labeling method I've found that will stand up to our hot, humid conditions. I don't have any experience with what they would do under a blanket of snow, but they are very waterproof.
I look for the label tape colors that are not so popular - lime green, pink, fuchsia, etc., and usually get those on sale for less than the regular price. I think the tape is also less expensive if ordered online, but when I run out of label tape, I need to rush to the office goods store for more tape before I totally forget the name of the plant I'm trying to label. LOL
