In my very hot and sunny garden on the Gulf Coast, I use a P-Touch inexpensive machine by Brother and the lam-
inated tapes made for it. They have never faded or come off of the zinc name-plates I get from Eon or Paw Paw.
Sometimes I use the super adhesive kind, but regular work just fine. Easily found at Office Depot. For temporary
applications, I use a No. 2 pencil on cut up window blinds.
