It's a pretty safe bet they'll be back, albeit a little smaller. Make a determination then as they progress. Susan, it dawned on me about your tarping a couple hot days ago. About your role out mothod. Sounded good. But keep in mind a couple things. 1. always remember: you need an airspace and vent whereever possible. Condensation forms on the underside of the tarp--which you've probably seen and you do not want the rosettes to get cold/wet for long--something easy to prevent by placing short support stakes here and there before you roll out the tarp. 2. Another reason is that tarps themselves don't offer protection--any contact between leaf and tarp and the leaf will freeze. Its the airspace under the tarp that gives the protection. Just as a side note--last spring I saw white frost on the underside of my tarps. And leave a small openings for venting.
