Not all maple trees have blooms that look like this. Here, for example, is one of my shots of the blooms of Acer rubrum

Spring just a couple of months away for most of us. When it arrives, I urge you to pay attention to the blooms of the trees we think of as 'merely' shade trees - maple, oak, beech, hickory, ash, elm, alder, birch, willow, sassafras, etc. Usually the blooms appear before the trees leaf out, or just when the leaves are emerging. I think you'll see some fascinating sights.

And don't neglect the blooms on evergreens.
