Cindy, another possibility is that your clump also contained a piece
of an adjoining plant. One year I moved several clumps that had
two plants even though I was so sure that I only had one.

And one bloomed out three different plants. My seedlings are
close together in the beds, and I can see each clump, or so
I thought. Really surprised me that I dug up a clump with
more than one plant blooming. And they are totally different.
Even different colors.
