I have an Alocasia x Calidora that I have grown for 4-5 years. This spring it lost ALL it's leaves and stalks right down to the semi-woody trunk. The got broken off by some critter after I planted it in the ground for the summer. That was in late April/early May and it still hasn't shown any sign of sprouting new leaves from the top of the trunk or from the side. The trunk is still firm, not rotting at all, but what's the matter? Or does it just take months and months to regrow leaves after being damaged?
