Just discovered this thread and am so excited about my dozen asparagus roots, it's year 2 and the little row is abundantly producing even this late in the season. And I only picked one spear, I'm being good. They are tied to the fence because after a while the tall ferns flop over. In front are some coleus and speedwell to dress it up. Next year I can harvest a bit. I credit success to the rich compost of oak leaves and kitchen scraps that I put down last year when I first planted the roots. Will put down a more compost next time I get inspired.
