It is called Yuca here in the Yucatan and in other parts of Mexico that I've been in, it is manioc or cassava in other areas. I've never seen it called ñame but if so then yes, it would be pronounced 'nya-may' It's possible that is a name from another spanish speaking country, possibly one of the caribbean islands. My favorite way of eating it is as tapioca pudding
