I had to remove bigger leaves before so my adeniums can conserve energy when repotting or when they start to bend or get top heavy. They get top heavy for me when I give them nitrogen rich fertilizer.

I now only do that during early spring when they are waking up. The rest of the year they will be on slow releases granules with high phosphorus or balanced fertilizer with supplement high phosphorus liquid fertilizer.
