Thanks for taking the time to explain DA rose history and the debate I have heard about weak roses. I have just gotten back into roses so I know I am an amateur grower. I keep ordering the DA roses that can tolerate zone 4 because they are so beautiful and usually fragrant, and have grown quite nicely for me. Funny that he didn't want to admit he had used modern roses in his breeding. What is up with that?! Hilarious!

About 30 years ago I had an east garden surrounding my deck planted with several Fragrant Cloud roses. The fragrance was strong but quite nice when relaxing on the deck. They were zone 5 so I had to bury them in a trench every fall. I am surprised that I don't see too many people interested in that variety.
