You mention vacuuming...what make/model do you have? I was looking at vacuums again yesterday, but just don't seem to be able to make up my mind.
Hey Jim! Thinking about you as I watched the Nor'Easter coming your way on ABC news last night. If anyone is prepared, it's you.
BTW, we decided to stay home instead of camping...."Home Sweet Home"...
start a fire in the fireplace, have some cocoa, read a book. ;)
re: vacuuming the pond.....I just attach a sump pump to the end of a long pole
(usually has a net or brush on the end), and keep it off the bottom ~ 2ft so it doesn't suck up rocks into the impellar, or clog it with debris.
It does a great job removing the fine muck.
Sometimes I just suspend it in a fixed spot, stir up the muck around it with another pole & with a sturdy net on it....I drag the net & haul it up , then dump the muck
on the dirt. A netfull of muck is very heavy...at least 20lb.
All the while the pump is sucking out suspended muck.
Then I move the pump to another area in the deep end (9ft deep), and repeat.
I've also just pumped out 80% of the water, but not necessary, and water's expensive now. Probably not good for the fish either.
But do take out ~2ft of water to make it easier to take care of the lilies & lotus.
They should be waking up in a few weeks, so lots to do ahead of time.
Today need to feed the roses so the rain can water it in later.
I use Bayer All-In-One granules. It's also great for Hollyhocks....they get so buff!
Keeps the rust & mildew off, too.
