I actually like how it looks now, with the darker markings here and there, gives it that antiqued look.

If you have any ceramic crafting shops near you, I would think they'd have good suggestions. Once painted the original color, then use the darker stains in the crevices would give it that old look.

Or just buy gold leaf sheets, apply several good coats of a clear finish once that's done to preserve the bright color.
