I agree Must be roots somewhere in that dead-looking section.

Enjoying all these tree peony pictures even though it makes me a little sad because I don't have any. I had one years ago that was just coming into its own, producing lots of blossoms after not doing much for several years. Then, unfortunately, I had some work done on my home and this "idiot" who called himself a contractor just dug it out because he thought it was in his way. I tried to salvage the plant by placing what was left in the ground but it never recovered, he had chopped off all the roots. I eventually fired this "idiot" because I was finding every job he did was substandard and when I pointed this out he wanted to fix it and then charge me again! Angry
