The tree peony has no roots is just cut dead limbs off last fall. It's like cutting a tree branch off then it grows leaves 8 months later… the tree peony section was set aside in a debris pile sat there all winter until two days ago I noticed the red eyes popping out of the bark section no roots . Two days ago I put the bark in damp soil with the eyes in photo above.
No roots on it now but wondering if it will become a tree peony after time. Well we'll see how this looks in a few months. I have a feeling once it warms up will be tricky and dry out easily. So have it in a shady spot near the front door to keep an eye on it. I am very curious to see how it turns out.
Any one have idea how this experiment will turn out?
It sort of reminds me of fresh veggies , onions, cabbage, ginger, potatoes etc. that will grow from the store . This may take years before it would ever be mature enough to bloom. If it even makes that far? It was such a surprise and it will be anchallenge to see what will come of this branch how it will look in a few months.
No roots just pooped out the side of a dead branch I cut off last year.so I plopped in on damp soil to see what happens.

@bumplbea I was wondering if triacontanol that is contained in alfalfa meal/straw could induce rooting. I've seen amazing come-backs with my rose bushes this drought stricken summer here. My way was spreading it as a layer all around and top it with some type of moisture retaining mulch ( in my case raw wool plus wood chips).
