You are lucky you purchased the right kind. I have my 2 Crepe Myrtle trees from my neighbors (left and right neighbors) and they are constantly are trying to give me their volunteers. Idem young trees of all kinds, just have to be vigilant and pull them when they are still little. My yards both back and front are small, and full with sunlight. To me I do not have space for big trees. But Mother Nature does not know that. She taught me that I cannot wait too long if I do not want a big tree. I had to get rid of a volunteer fir tree a few years ago, it grew so big it almost filled 1/4 of my back yard! I am now debating whether I have to cut down some kind of dog wood tree, it is so healthy but it volunteered too close to my house. I do not know what kind it is. The cicadas loved it and I had to prune it hard and it is growing back, I am hoping one of my neighbor wants it and can dig it out and move it. Maybe after I know what kind of dogwood it is ---my neighbor has one already blooming, but this one has not bloomed yet. I have also a young one in the back yard, a gift from a friend, it is not blooming yet, it is a pink one. Otherwise I must take the one in the front yard out and toss it before it grows too large.
